Today, SITKA has introduced its most advanced line of insulation pieces to date with the new Ambient Collection!
The Ambient Collection features active insulation that is made to move, helping you regulate heat and move moisture through your system when you're active while still providing warmth once your activity level slows down. The new Ambient Collection is made up of the Ambient Hoody and Ambient Jacket.
I got my hands on the Ambient Collection a few weeks ago and I’m excited to take the hoody up to Montana this coming week to get some real-world use out of it. Each piece in the collection utilizes low-bulk PrimaLoft Evolve insulation to deliver warmth when you’re still, breathable performance, and moisture management when you’re moving, and it drys quickly if it gets wet. That is huge during different situations you're faced with in the mountains when just hiking in a base layer doesn't cut it!
“These active insulation products adapt to changing conditions allowing for more efficient layering,” said John Barklow, SITKA’s Big Game Product Manager. "The Ambient Collection transitions seamlessly from outerwear when active to a mid-layer as activity slows and temperatures drop.”
“This collection increases the performance of any Sitka clothing system providing unmatched versatility during active pursuits in cool and cold weather,” Barlow added. “Whether chasing bugles on a brisk morning, backpacking above timberline or making your way back to camp in the frigid darkness, the Ambient collection is your adaptive insulation solution.”
I have big plans for the Ambient Hoody this fall. Where I see this piece shining is on my backpack mule deer hunts. I enjoy finding ways to further be ready for anything the mountain will toss my way. This layer is going to be ideal during cold weather hunts as added insulation or when I’m pushing it down a ridge moving in on a glassing spot when I need an insulation layer that I won't sweat out of.
One of the big highlights for me is packable insulation. I never want to carry layers in my pack that takes up precious space and adds unneeded weight. At 13 oz for the Ambient Hoody, this fits the bill for something I’ll gladly pack for some added warmth and I’d probably now even rethink some of the layers I currently take on October/November hunts and leave them at home by adding the Ambient Hoody. I’m always looking for ways to stay on the mountain longer during ever-changing weather conditions and this checks the boxes for me.
Note: For reference, I'm 6'5" and 185 pounds and I was wearing the XL version of the Ambient Jacket, but I would definitely go with the XLT for my build.
The Ambient Jacket packs up very small!

Note: For reference, again I'm 6'5" and 185 pounds and in the photo above I'm wearing the XLT size, which is perfect for me!
Once again, the Ambient Hoody is very packable and is roughly the size of a Nalgene when compressed and at 13 ounces, it's not adding extra weight in my backpack.

Overall this is a great addition to SITKA's lineup and I can't wait to use it more this fall.
