With wildfires still raging across the West, temporary closures and restrictions are necessary. In Wyoming, the Crater Ridge Fire in the Bighorn National Forest has prompted a closure north of U.S. Highway 14A in Sheridan County, which impacts Elk Hunt Area 38 and 39, Deer Hunt Area 25 and Moose Hunt Area 1, according to Oil City News.
“At this time, the current public closure area does not meet the criteria to offer hunting license refunds or carryover licenses (Commission Regulation Chapter 44, Sections 23(a) and 26(d)),” the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) said. “If that changes, Game and Fish will notify license holders.”
If you have a hunt planned in northwest Wyoming this fall, WGFD recommends contacting local counties or checking out the current fire restrictions to make sure you’re still able to get to the area you plan to hunt in. With the Crater Ridge fire burning since July 17, full containment may not happen until “the region receives significant snowfall,” according to Oil City News.
For any questions related to hunting, contact the Sheridan Region Office at 307-672-7418 or the Cody Region Office at 307-527-7125.
Stay safe out there.
