Congratulations to Casey Brooks on his new archery world record non-typical American elk! The Pope and Young Club (P&Y) confirmed the new world record on Oct. 13, 2025, during the first ever joint special panel between P&Y and the Boone & Crockett Club (B&C) that convened in Lacey, Washington, according to a news release.
The record-breaking bull was shot on Dec. 31, 2024, by Brooks in Kittitas County, Washington. After pursuing the bull elk for two years, Brooks was finally able to get within bow range, “releasing a well-placed arrow on the final day of 2024.”
“This elk represents the heart, dedication, persistence, and respect for the hunt,” said Tim Rozewski, P&Y Director of Records. “It’s an incredible achievement, not only for Casey, but for the entire bowhunting community.”
The bull’s official score of 478 2/8” surpasses the previous P&Y world record elk by 28 6/8” – and is only half an inch away from B&C’s world record. The fact that Brooks killed the massive bull with archery equipment makes the achievement remarkable.
“From a scoring and verification standpoint, this bull was remarkable in every way,” said Roy Grace, Records Chairman for P&Y. “The mass, tine length, and overall configuration made it clear early on that we were witnessing something special. It’s a true testament to the conservation success of bowhunting and wildlife management.”
