If you hunt in Utah and wish you could tag your harvest electronically, take note. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) is proposing an update to its current tagging rule, which would allow the use of a new e-tagging option with a digital permit, according to a news release.
“With more services transitioning to digital, we wanted to provide another option for hunters to make things more convenient during their hunting trip,” said Lindy Varney, UDWR licensing coordinator. “We hope this new e-tagging option will help streamline the process, making animal tagging and harvest survey reporting simpler for hunters.”
If approved, the new e-tagging would be available for the 2025 fall season.
UDWR is also considering a change to how it handles hunters surrendering permits. Currently, hunters who want to surrender their permits are required to do so 30 days prior to the start of the hunting season for that permit; however, sometimes draw results aren’t finalized or posted within that timeframe. Refunds are also currently not allowed if a hunter surrenders a limited entry or once-in-a-lifetime permit.
The proposed change would allow a refund for any hunter who surrenders a permit with season dates that start less than 30 days from the posted date of an application, minus $25 for limited entry and once-in-a-lifetime permits.
The agency is currently seeking public comment on these proposals (and a few others) either online or through a series of meeting dates. Online comments will be accepted through the deadlines listed as follows:
