Sample of the Colorado limited hunting license leftover list.
Exciting times are ahead for people looking to grab a leftover tag in Colorado! Yesterday, the 2019 Colorado leftover tag list became available. You can access the leftover tag list here.
All leftover licenses will be available for purchase online, and by phone at 1-800-244-5613, or in person at any CPW offices, and license retailers on Tuesday, August 6 at 9:00 a.m (MDT). It is worth noting that not all CPW locations offer first-come-first-served licenses. Contact a license location ahead of time if you want to pick up a license in person. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, there are more than 54,500 big game hunting licenses available on the leftover list this year! So there are plenty of options for someone who wants to hunt the great state of Colorado.
So if you want a tag, you'll have to be fast on the computer or phone as the license isn't yours until you have completely checked out! So what this means, if you add a license to your shopping cart and are slow to check out, someone could still snag that license from you.
For the leftover tag list, remember that you can begin your research now for the leftover tag you might want to pick up by using Filtering, and Draw Odds to determine the popularity of the leftover tags (certain units in the leftover draw are highly coveted and will most likely be picked over fast), and you can even use our Application Strategy articles for further research.
Note: A qualifying license is not required to purchase a leftover limited license, reissued license or an over-the-counter license.
It is important to have an active account set up and be familiar with how to purchase a license before the start of the leftover day. This is extremely important because certain tags will be picked up fast and lots of tags will sell out within the first few minutes. The list will refresh every five minutes.
Be prepared for the leftover day by completing the following checklist before purchases begin on Tuesday, August 6 at 9:00 a.m (MDT). If you're looking to pick up a leftover tag at a local CPW office, it's best to check with them on their process and hours ahead of time.
According to CPW, if you have logged into CPWshop.com before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6 and are waiting for the leftover licenses to go on sale, do not go past the residency page. If you go past this page before 9 a.m., you will need to log out and back in and start over once the leftover licenses are available.
Read a walkthrough on how to purchase these tags here.
According to the Colorado leftover page, any active duty member of the United States Armed Forces stationed at any military facility in Colorado and actively deployed outside the United States, or any active duty member of the United States Armed Forces who is a Colorado resident and is deployed outside the United States, shall be allowed preference for the purchase of leftover licenses.
Just a reminder that the reissued licenses will be available on the leftover list starting August 6 at 9 a.m.. Any additional reissued licenses that are not on the initial leftover list will be added starting August 13. After the initial run, reissued licenses will randomly be placed on the current leftover and leftover OTC with cap lists on Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If a license gets picked up, that same licenses could become available again if the license is reissued, slim chance, but there is still hope.
Returned deer, elk, pronghorn and bear hunt codes that took 5 or more resident preference points to draw, in the current years draw, will be reissued to the next person in the draw order.
All other returned limited and over-the-counter (OTC) with caps licenses, excluding public Ranching for Wildlife, will be available to any of the public, who meet licensing and education requirements.
Antelope – more than 7,700 limited licenses available
Bear – more than 6,000 limited licenses available
Deer – more than 10,250 limited licenses available
