Utah spike elk hunting research on GOHUNT Filtering
Over-the-counter (OTC) tag sales will begin July 17 at 8 a.m. MT for the 2025 general season spike elk permits. Permits can be purchased through any Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) office, at all license agent locations or online.
For 2025, the department has made 15,000 permits available for the any legal weapon and muzzleloader hunt while the multi-season permit will be capped at 4,500 permits (these come out of the 15,000). The 15,000 any legal weapon permits permits are available to both residents and nonresidents. Hunters must first possess a valid hunting license before purchasing their general elk permit; however, this can be purchased with your permit at the time of sale.
Recently, Utah lawmakers voted to increase the costs of nonresident licenses in the state. The increases are set to take place after the OTC tag sale dates, so getting a tag at the older price is still possible for this season. However, next year the prices will increase significantly.
Permits are season specific unless you possess a multi-season tag. Hunters with the multi-season tag can hunt all valid seasons until their permit is filled.
One of the best parts about these hunting opportunities is that all of them can be found with an Insider account.
Using the research suite of tools on Insider can significantly cut down the learning curve in trying to figure out if this is an opportunity you want to pursue; at the same time, you can also quickly find a unit that you want to hunt using Filtering and GOHUNT Maps.
