Finding Hunts with Filtering 2.0
Researching your hunts has never been easier.
Filtering 2.0 puts you in total control. With customizable filters, cut through millions of data points in an instant—to find trophy units and opportunity hunts that fit exactly what you’re looking for. It’s one of the most exciting benefits of being a goHUNT INSIDER.
There’s no better way to explain how Filtering 2.0 works than to show you. To do that, we’ll walk through two different scenarios:
- Example 1: Over-the-counter elk opportunity in Idaho.
- Example 2: Deciding on a trophy deer hunt in Wyoming.
Example 1: Over-the-counter elk opportunity in Idaho
Here are the simple steps we follow to find the right hunt:
- Navigate to Filtering 2.0 -> Idaho -> Elk. 98 units
- Under Season, select “Early Rifle (Over the Counter)”. 29 results
- Filter Trophy Potential to 310 inches or better. 8 results
- Sort by Male-to-Female Ratio. 2 results are tied for the highest ratio (44:100)
- Compare percentage of 6-point bulls harvested. 1 result wins (33% vs 22%)
Example 2: Deciding on a trophy deer hunt in Wyoming
Let’s step into the boots of a Wyoming nonresident applying with three points.
Here are the simple steps we follow to find the right hunt:
- Navigate to Filtering 2.0 -> Wyoming-> Mule Deer. 133 areas
- Filter Trophy Potential to 180 inches or greater. 24 areas
- Enter Draw Odds info: Nonresident regular, 3 points, 100% chance. 15 areas
- Filter by Harvest Success of 50% or better. 1 season in a single area
At this point in either scenario, we can start getting to know the area better by diving into unit profiles (see a sample here). A cool note about the Wyoming deer hunt - the unit profile gives us even more draw odds detail, which shows that we could even party app with a buddy as long as he has 1 preference point.
The detailed information is enough to make an informed decision about whether or not this is the right hunt for your preferences. Then it’s off to Google Earth for a more detailed look before reaching out to a state biologist to get his/her take.
