More bighorns will be relocated in Arizona

Arizona Game and Fish (AZGF) recently announced that they will release 30 additional bighorn sheep into the Santa Catalina Mountains. This is the second stage in a continuing, yet controversial, effort to reintroduce the animals into the mountain range, where they used to roam widely. Read more here.

Man ordered to pay $30,240 in mule deer poaching

Thanks to a tip made on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Stop Poaching Hotline, authorities have apprehended a man on multiple counts of taking big game animals without licenses. The tip led investigators to a social media site where 47-year-old John Clark had posted photos of the animals he shot. Read more here.

New Utah extended hunt changes for 2015

tah’s Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) has proposed a number of changes for the 2015 big game hunt that would provide deer and elk hunters with plenty more opportunity. ne proposal would allow limited entry deer hunting on six general season units, after the general rifle buck deer hunt ends. Hunters would be required to use a muzzleloader during the late-season hunt; rifles would not be allowed. Only a small number of permits would be made available. Read more here.

Do land access fees hurt wildlife?

Wildlife experts maintain that the growing trend of land access fees will not only hurt hunters, but wildlife as well. For some hunters, paying an additional fee for access to prime hunting locations is nothing new. Land access fees have been around for a while in the form of waterfowl-hunting clubs, and more recently, the more desirable upland bird regions have been adopting pay-to-hunt programs. Read more here.
