Private and public land within the Woolhouse Habitat Area is limited to foot and horseback traffic only. Most seasons are restricted to primitive weapons. The unit includes Pinetop-Lakeside and part of Snowflake.

This is not considered to be a top unit for producing trophy sized deer, but Unit 3B still holds a few large elk and antelope. While antelope numbers have declined, hunting is still good and mule deer quality is improving with primitive weapon seasons. Early archery and muzzleloader elk seasons occur during rut.

Elevations are higher in the South and descend towards the North.

Dirt roads provide good public access into the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and state property. Lower elevations have a checkerboard-style arrangement of state and private land with some restricted access.

Higher elevations are composed of mixed conifer forests with ponderosa pine in the south. In mid-elevations, you will find pine trees mixed with oaks. The lower elevations are composed of juniper forests with typically large, open grass and brush flats.

Most hunters camp along Forest Service roads. Show Low, Snowflake, Taylor and Pinetop-Lakeside offer lodging. Developed campgrounds include: Scott’s Reservoir, Los Burros, Fool Hollow State Park.
