Unit 11 in Colorado offers varied terrain that suits different hunting styles, with hunters frequently noting the importance of being adaptable to the unit's diverse landscapes. Many hunters emphasize the effectiveness of scouting prior to the season to increase familiarity with the terrain and locate game effectively. The consistent pattern is that those who succeed plan ahead, focus on understanding elk movement patterns, and remain flexible in their strategies. Utilizing this unit's features, like natural funnels and water sources, can significantly enhance hunter success, reinforcing the need for thorough preparation and adaptability.
This unit is located in the northwest corner of the state and just outside of the town of Meeker. Hunters will find good opportunities here with ample amounts of public land and good game densities. A good road system will be found here but this unit also offers a few roadless areas including the Cross Mountain, Black Mountain and Windy Gulch Wilderness study areas.
Good game densities can be found here along with a healthy trophy potential for each. Hunting on public land can be good but hunters will need to cover ground and be on their optics throughout the day.
