This hunting district is located on the north side of the Missouri River. Major landmarks include Fourchette Recreation Area and the UL Bend Wilderness Area. All elk hunting in this area is on a draw system.

Rifle bull elk tags are hard to draw but are worth the wait. Archery elk tags are easier to draw but, like most of the breaks, hunting pressure can make archery hunting difficult.This hunt district is a general deer area with high hunting pressure and most bucks are harvested at a younger age class. Whitetail hunting can be hit or miss depending on the year.

The breaks are an amazing place to see and remain largely unchanged. The country starts from rolling hillsides and eventually turns into easily erodible deep and steep coulees that run for miles down to the Missouri River. These coulees are what the breaks are known for. Rock formations carved out from the river can be seen scattered along the landscape. For the most part the terrain is open and lightly covered in junipers. Elk and deer still find ways to hide in this seemingly open terrain.

The majority of hunters will access the hunting district from Highway 364 just south of Malta. From there take Regina Road and follow that for 46 miles until you hit Reynolds Road. Follow that for another 14 miles and you will hit Fourchette Creek Recreation Area. Another option would be to head south from Hinsdale or head down the Bone Trail that is south of Glasgow. No matter which route you chose, prepare for a long gravel drive.

The vegetation is dominated by various grasses and sagebrush. Juniper and deciduous trees can be found on most north facing slopes, as well as thick stands of Ponderosa pine. Small cottonwood stands can be found on the floodplain near the water.

There are a few campsite options near the Missouri River in this hunting district. Fourchette Recreation Area is a very popular campsite that has areas to park campers and also launch boats. You can also camp along the lake shore. The closest towns with hotels are Malta, Hinsdale and Glasgow. Be prepared to travel 60 plus miles one way if you want to sleep in a bed at night.
