This hunting district is found in northwestern Montana and to the southeast of the large town of Kalispell. In the western portion Kootenai National Forest provides checkerboard sections of public lands. Be aware of private land property lines. Many old clear cuts have regenerated with new growth providing excellent forage and bedding areas for the moose population.
Flathead County has a number of 170” Boone and Crockett Class Shiras Moose listed in the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks record books. While the trophy potential is still high it has somewhat dipped in recent years and population densities have seen a similar pattern.
