This is one of the most desolate and isolated pronghorn ranges in the West, this unit borders Nevada and stretches south from the Great Salt Lake Desert near Interstate 80 through its namesake, Snake Valley.

Typical of the Great Basin, terrain varies from wide flats that once formed the bottom of an ancient inland sea to mountains that rise thousands of feet. Unit boundaries are Nevada, U.S. Highway 6, Interstate 80 and an irregular eastern line that starts at the Knolls on I-80, leads south to the Dugway Mountains and then follows the summits of several ranges to U.S. 6. Mountain ranges include Snake, Deep Creek, Fish Springs, Dugway, Thomas and Middle. Salt and mud flats, part of the Great Salt Lake Desert, occupy the northern part of the unit.

Most of the unit is federal land that is managed by the BLM and the Fish and Wildlife Service. The Goshute tribe controls land in and near the Deep Creek Mountains, but that property is not included in the unit. The state of Utah owns many sections that are surrounded by BLM land. Dirt roads allow hunters to get almost anywhere they want in the unit. Access is mainly from the east by the Brush and Weis highways near Delta or roads south of Wendover on Lincoln Highway, then Ibapah Road.

Sagebrush, rabbitbrush, greasewood, and grasses make up the lower elevations. Pinyons, junipers, Douglas firs, aspens, and isolated pockets of white firs are located at higher elevations.

Motels and hotels are in Wendover but are far from most antelope hangouts. Most hunters simply camp along dirt roads. The nearest gas and motels are about 80 miles from Callao.
