With a lot of antelope and good public access, this unit is a great place to hunt for antelope bucks. The western half of this unit is mountainous and mostly void of antelope but the lower valleys found to the east are great habitat and hold good numbers of animals.

This area is not considered a trophy area, but there are big portions of public land here. In the past, this area has produced some good bucks and the opportunity to look over a lot of bucks while waiting for a larger buck is possible.

There are a lot of rolling sagebrush draws, grassy ridges, and valleys with steep creek cuts. The unit can get very steep and high in elevation on the western edge though this area is not typical antelope habitat. Antelope can be found throughout the valley floor.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

Hunters can hunt on Pitchfork Ranch. The combination of BLM, state lands and the ranch make a lot of access possible. Most hunters should expect to hike sagebrush hills and valleys with steep inclines.

Lower elevations have sagebrush and a lot of grassy vegetation. With higher elevations hunters can find lodgepole pine, juniper and quaking aspen. Glassing and walking conditions in the lower valley areas are excellent.

Meeteetse is the nearest town with accommodations. Meeteetse has two hotels, a grocery store and gas station. Cody has a lot of lodging options, restaurants and gas stations. Camping on Wyoming state land is prohibited, but hunters can camp on BLM in a specific location for up to 14 days within any 28-day period.
