At a Glance
Area 15 is located on the Montana – Wyoming border northeast of Sheridan. It is bordered on the north by the Montana – Wyoming state line, the east by the Powder River and County Road 269, the south by Highways 14 and 16, and the west by Interstate 90. This unit consists mainly of high plains desert, and most of the land is private with some BLM and state lands. Public land hunters will find enough ground here to find success but the best bucks and highest odds for success will generally be found on private lands.
This hunt area has some State and BLM lands but access can be tough. A good map with a land ownership layer is a must for DIY hunters. Harvest rates are typically high. Hunters can use an outfitter to access private lands, which is where the best hunting exists. Most public lands are found in the eastern or western portions of the unit. There are big chunks of public land throughout the entire unit, but some of them can only be accessed through private land.
