This area can be found in the east-central part of the state and just north of Douglas. Comprised of high plains desert, this unit has a mix of private land, BLM land, state land and the Thunder Basin National Grassland. Public land hunters will find a lot of opportunities here and have the option to cover some serious ground in search of a buck they like.

There is good general access to public land here, with a high success rate for harvest. Using an outfitter to access private land can increase trophy potential. There is a lot of oil and gas activity in the west part of the unit.

This unit consists has different types of grassy and desert-like open prairie with big basins, creek bottoms and some rolling hills that are good for putting on a stalk. Glassing conditions are prime but the broken terrain can hide small groups of animals and create some excitign still hunting opportunities.

Public access in this unit is good, with several well-maintained roads and smaller two-track roads. The gas and oil drilling activity that goes on here gives access to a lot of roads. This area is bordered by Wyoming Highway 59 on the west, Wyoming Highway 450 on the north, County Roads 7A and 39 on the east, and County Road 38 and Dry Fork of the Cheyenne River to the south.

Open land and high desert prairie with sagebrush and grasslands can be found here. Rocky bluffs, sagebrush, cedars and small trees will typically be in the higher elevations in the Rochelle Hills.

Gillette and Douglas are the closest towns to the unit and have a lot of lodging options. Grocery stores, gas stations, and other amenities can be found here as well. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Hunters can also camp in remote locations.
