Area 29 can be found in the east-central part of the state and just northeast of Douglas. Made up of high plains desert, this unit contains a mix of private lands with a few tracts of BLM, state land and the Thunder Basin National Grassland. Scattered public lands are found here, primarily in the northern half of the unit, and public land hunters that put in the work can find great odds of filling a tag.

This hunt area has decent general access to public land, and a high success rate for harvest. Outfitters can be used for access to private land in this area. The bigger bucks will typically come from the more remote areas or private land.

This unit consists of a variety of grassy or desert-like open prairie with large basins, creek bottoms and rolling hills that provide good opportunities for stalking. Glassing opportunities here are great and will be th ebest bet for initially locating animals.

Public access in this unit is decent. State highways and county roads are throughout the entire unit, as well as some smaller two tracks. The gas and oil drilling that goes on here can open up access to roads in some areas. This area is bordered by Wyoming Highway 59 on the west, County Road 38 and Dry Fork of the Cheyenne River on the north. County Roads 38, 14, 23, 53, 46 and Wyoming Highways 271 and 272 can be found on the east, with U.S. Highway 20 and the North Platte River to the south.

This unit consists of high desert prairie with sagebrush and grasslands. Rocky bluffs, sagebrush, cedars and small trees can be found in hills in the north and the southeast portion of the unit.

Douglas is the closest town, and has a lot of lodging options. Grocery stores, gas stations and other amenities can be found here as well. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Hunters can also camp in remote locations here.
