This area is located in the west-central part of the state near Dubois. Comprised of high plains desert and forest, this area contains a lot of BLM and State lands along with some National Forest.

This is a high success area and has decent access. There is not a huge population of antelope here, but there are enough antelope to look at and be selective. The Wildlife Management Areas are where most harvest takes place.

Most of this area is made up of open prairies with large basins, creek bottoms and rolling hills that give hunters the opportunity to put on a good stalk. There are sections of farmland and some badlands terrain as well. This terrain gradually changes to timbered forest at higher elevations.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

Most of this hunt area is covered in sagebrush and grassland, typical of the high desert prairie. Croplands dominate the valley floor near Dubois. There are some heavily timbered areas as the elevation climbs into the National Forest.

Public Access in this unit is good. County Roads 277, 285 and 310 cross the unit and are well maintained. There are a few roads passable only with 4-wheel drive or ATVs. Weather conditions can quickly change road conditions, so keep that in mind while preparing. Utilizing your GOHUNT maps for land ownership and property boundaries is key.

Dubois is the closest town of any size and offers a lot of options for lodging. Groceries, gas, and other amenities can be found here as well. Camping is allowed on most public ground for up to 16 days in one location.
