There are National Forest and Wilderness areas throughout the majority of this unit.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region F and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 105, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115.

Mule deer can be found throughout all elevations, but this area is known for its migration routes in late October and early December. Yellowstone National Park borders the western side of the unit and serves as the travel corridor for bucks to the lower country from the National Park.

Long ridges run across the unit with little canyons and pockets running off of them. Hillsides along the ridges are steep with loose rock. Rock ledges are found strung along ridges throughout the unit.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

There are a number of trailheads throughout the area that can provide great access points despite the heavy outfitter horse traffic they see. Rough roads are found in most locations outside of the wilderness areas. There is a small part of private property in this area, but it does not block access.

Conifer forests take up the majority of the unit, with aspen tree pockets found in several locations and willow bushes lining the creeks and streams. Sagebrush ridges and small grass flats can also be found around the unit.

Camping is permitted inside of the National Forest with no permit required. Lodging, grocery stores and restaurants are located southeast of the unit in Cody, and also north east of the unit in Red Lodge, MT.
