This unit has private agriculture lands at lower elevation, along the Greybull and Wood Rivers. You will run into BLM land and public access as you gain elevation into the foothills. This is a limited quota area for both residents and nonresidents.

Being a limited quota area with tags tough to obtain, there will be low hunter densities on this hunt. The two week late October season will let you hunt quality bucks on their migration routes to the lower ground. Quality whitetail bucks are found in low elevations.

The low elevations are fairly flat with private agriculture fields and large sagebrush flats. As you go up into the foothill elevations, you’ll find rolling hills and rough cuts building up to large drainages and canyons heading into the higher country.

There is good public access along the Greybull River, the majority of which comes from Pitchfork Road. There are a number of smaller four wheel drive roads, off of the main access road west of Meeteetse, that can be taken to access more remote areas. This road forks into Road 5RU, 204, 206 and 208. The Wood River does not have a lot of access, but it can access the southern section of The Upper Sunlight Game Management Area. The north side of area 116 has limited access to small chunks of the unit. A GPS with private/public mapping software will be very helpful on this hunt.

Lower elevations have sagebrush, prairie grasses and agriculture crop fields. Hardwoods and big cottonwood trees can be found along the rivers. The sagebrush and prairie grasses hold true most of the way up in elevation. You’ll have conifer forests and aspen patches from the mid to higher elevations.

Meeteetse is located on the eastern side of the unit and has a gas station with basic grocery items, as well as a couple of bar/restaurants in town. Cody is 30 minutes north of Meeteetse and has a number of places to eat, hotels, grocery stores and other services. Nearby National Forest trail head campgrounds include Jack Creek, Brown Mountain and Wood River. Camping on state land in the state is not allowed, but hunters can camp on any BLM land unless specified otherwise.
