Unit 46 is located in North Central Wyoming in the Bighorn Mountains, north of Highway 16, and is known for its good success rates on respectable bucks. The terrain in this unit allows hunters to glass over a lot of ground from high vantage points. For nonresidents, this area is part of Region R and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 41, 47, 50, 51, 52, 53.
Both mule deer and whitetail are found in this unit. This unit is known for its decent harvest rates and seeing quite a few deer, but the terrain makes it a challenging hunt. Mule deer numbers have been lower the last couple of years, but there’s still potential to find a trophy. Archery season is a good option for finding bucks in bachelor groups; finding small watering holes and game trails can be effective during the archery season.
