Unit 50 is located in North Central Wyoming in the Bighorn Mountains. Terrain is fairly rugged throughout the entire unit.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region R and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 41, 46, 47, 51, 52, 53.

Both mule deer and whitetail are found in this unit. This unit is known for decent harvest rates, but the terrain makes it a challenging hunt. Mule deer numbers have been lower the last couple of years, but there’s still potential to find a trophy. Archery season is the best time to find bachelor groups still in their summer pattern.

This unit is small but rugged. At higher elevations, there are a lot of open prairie grasslands above the tree lines with cliffs running throughout. While the unit is rugged, it is fairly open and perfect for glassing long distances.

This unit has fairly good access but can also be very remote and hard to access due to the rugged terrain. Putting on miles in rough country to separate yourself from roads will increase your odds of a successful harvest. Most of the roads are very rocky and rough on vehicles, so ATV’s are recommended.

Most of the higher country is prairie grasses with some sagebrush intermixed. The mid to lower elevations have more high desert vegetation with a lot of shrub bushes and rock, with areas of prairie grass patches.

Lovell is the closest town, just west of the unit, and has lodging and food options. Burgess Junction is also located further into the Bighorns, to the east, and has minimal lodging and food options which are seasonal but open during most of the hunting season. Camping is permitted throughout the unit along forest roads.
