Gold Rush Hunts is a full time outfitting service, that covers the entire state on New Mexico. We are an extremely hard working, passionate and personable team that will do whatever it takes to make sure our clients enjoy comfortable, exciting and ethical fair chase hunting adventures. We are firm believers that extensive scouting, hard hunting, and luck are the key ingredients to successful hunts. No one else in the business will work harder for you. Rick Ortega was ranch raised in some of the most rugged country known to the state. He has spent his whole life outdoors working on many different ranches and hunting the entire state. His cowboy and horsemanship skills are unmatched as well as his work ethic. Anyone who has spent much time at all with Rick knows he is one of the hardest working, skilled, honest, reliable, and professional people you will ever have the privilege to meet. Rick has been guiding hunts professionally in New Mexico, Old Mexico, and Arizona for over 25 years, making him as experienced as anyone in the industry. Well known as one of the states top sheep guides he has guided hunters to well over 100 successful sheep hunts. Rick is a "been there done that" type of man who is a friend to everyone who has ever met him.

 Taran Rogers was raised on his families cattle ranch in the Magdalena mountains of New Mexico. He has also spent his life devoted to the outdoors, ranching and guiding hunts. Taran has spent all of his youth working and learning from the best people in the state. He has learned an endless amount of wild country and knowledge of the animals that in habit it, as well as skills to be successful in any situation. He has guided and been on many successful back country hunts. Taran processes an abundance of energy, and a great attitude.

Available Hunts

BIG HORN SHEEP
New Mexico has outstanding herds of both Rocky Mountain & Desert Big horns. No one knows these herds like the Gold Rush team. We make many trips scouting these animals throughout the whole year, to ensure we find and locate Boone & Crockett trophy rams. We put in countless hours studying these animals, and have quality livestock and equipment to take you into the rugged country these animals live in. WE ARE NEW MEXICO'S PREMIERE SHEEP OUTFITTER!!

ELK HUNTS
New Mexico has some of the highest quality of elk there is. We were born and raised in the heart of elk country. We know the country and the animals as well as anyone, we also possess top notch skills in locating, calling, stalking, judging and caping these animals. The units we hunt elk in have outstanding numbers and quality of bulls ranging anywhere from 325"-380"+  

DEER HUNTS
We offer both Mule and Coues deer hunts. Very fun hunts, we will take our clients into exceptional deer habitat and show them quality bucks. We have had a great amount of success in both rifle hunts in the fall and archery hunts during the rut in January.

PRONGHORN ANTELOPE
New Mexico is home to great pronghorn populations and quality of bucks. These hunts offer fun opportunities for the whole family to enjoy. Action packed adventures, you will see tons of game and have many different options of animals to harvest. Success rates are high when after pronghorn.

NEW MEXICO EXOTICS

We also have unique species in our great state such as: Barbary Sheep (Aoudad), Ibex, and Oryx. These animals are all outstanding trophies, and offer really fun hunts you won't find anywhere else. The Gold Rush team is more than proficient at these hunts, and our clients all seem to love these unique animals. LION & BEAR HUNTS

We partner with fellow New Mexico Outfitter and great friend of ours: Mike Root. Mike conducts these hunts the legendary old fashioned way, following a seasoned pack of hounds while horse back. These hunts will take you through some of the most beautiful country there is. Mike is a well known and respected houndsmen who has been treeing bear and lions professionally since 1980.
