This zone is located in southern California along the Nevada border and features a smaller but healthy population of sheep. This zone features and huge collection of remote and public lands within the Mojave National Preserve with plenty of area to search for sheep.
The terrain in this zone is a wide range of open desert valleys, ridges and eroded canyons. The canyons and washes are deep and often extremely long, with exposed walls sloughing with erosion. Despite the harshness of the climate, you should see a wide variety of plants and animals adapted to life in the desert.
Most of the camping or lodging will be primitive remote camping. Camping outside designated camping areas is permitted in BLM and NPS areas, as long as the site has been previously used as a camping area. Firewood is scarce throughout the desert, and firewood collecting is prohibited within the Mojave National Preserve. Hunters must supply campfire material.
A good road system is found throughout the unit though many pockets of roadless and generally very remote areas still exist to be explored. Nearly all of the unit is public lands and locating hunting areas is not difficult.
