East of Meeker is the Flattops Herd estimated at 20 Rocky Mountain bighorns. Flattops Wilderness Area and White River National Forest provides a lot of public land for hunters.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife estimate the Flattops herd is near 20 sheep. Rams can be very hard to locate on the walls of South Fork Canyon. Glass from the south side of the canyon for best results. This wilderness area is only accessed by foot or on horseback. Be aware of bears around campsites.
