This small unit located outside of the town fo Pueblo is home to a small, but healthy, population of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Most of the sheep in this unit will be found along the broken terrain surrounding the Arkansas River.
This is a small herd and a small hunting unit. Sheep will not be difficult to locate and the low tag numbers will make for a great hunt.
This unit is composed of mostly flat sage flats with the Arkansas River running through the middle. The areas along the river are comprised of broken ridges running down from the sage flats to the river bottom. Good sheep habitat is found all along the river, particularly on the southern side.
This area has a fairly low distribution of public lands, but most of the primary sheep habitat and range will be found int he public lands. Overall, hunter access on this unit is great and hunters will find little trouble working into hunting locations.
Most of the lower lying areas and foothills areas will consists of native grasses, sagebrush, rabbitbrush, saltbrush, and pinyon/juniper while the arkansas river bottom will see a higher distributin of willow and cottonwood.
