The Tex Creek elk zone is found in east-central Idaho and near the Wyoming state line. Both of the units that make up this zone have largely different terrain types and offer different hunting experiences. There are both over-the-counter and controlled hunt options available here. A good population of elk can be found here along with good trophy potentials.
The western two-thirds of this zone is largely comprised of mostly open rolling hills. Tree covers will be found in some of the more prolific drainages but glassing options are largely unlimited. There is enough terrain variation in this area to hide herds and hunters will still need to move from glassing point to glassing point. The eastern side of the zone in unit 66 is much more mountainous and rugged. Here, timber and elevations are much higher. Hunters will still find glassing opportunities in this country, particularly at high elevation, but still hunting timber will be a likely tactic.
Access is great in both units with plenty of public land and several county roads. Hunts in unit 66 can easily find themselves in remote locations with enough physical effort.
