This hunt district has an estimated herd population of 213 antelope. Beaverhead National Forest, BLM, Montana State Trust Lands and Block Management Areas offer thousands of acres of public lands.
Public lands offer plenty of acres to roam and glass for an antelope buck. Beaverhead County has three bucks listed in the record book so take enough time to glass a number of bucks before making the decision to hunt just one. Rain and snow can make roads slick and muddy so four-wheel drive vehicle are recommended in any season.
10,000 foot Lima Peaks in the Beaverhead Mountain Range are the highest peaks around. From Interstate 15 to the foothills are miles of open flats, rolling rangeland and a number of creek bottoms. Diamond Butte is a prominent landmark near the small town of Monida.
State Trust Lands and Block Management Areas 21 and 117 offer over 10,000 acres of public land with good access. Beaverhead National Forest has a good system of Forest Service roads allowing travel to known antelope areas.
Some of the south facing slopes have thick stands of pinyon and juniper, with north facing slopes consisting of lodgepole and ponderosa pine. Ridges and foothills have clusters of mountain shrubs and creek bottoms are lined with cottonwood and willows. Alpine slopes have small grassy areas with wildflowers. Dropping down to the open flats you find buffalo and blue grama grasses covering the rangeland.
Camping is allowed on BLM lands and Beaverhead National Forest for up to 16 days. Check local regulations for camping on State Trust and Block Management Areas. Small towns of Lima, Dell and Monida offer limited choices for food and gas or diesel. Idaho Falls is some 80 miles to the south while Dillon is north about 45 miles both, are on Interstate 15.
