This district is located west of the community of Butte and east of Anaconda. Block Management and Wildlife Management Areas, BLM, Beaverhead and Deerlodge National Forest provide public land opportunities for residents and nonresidents who draw a limited quota license. Much of the land holding antelope is privately held. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks estimates the antelope population at 160 animals.

If you’re looking for a Boone and Crockett class buck this district might not be the best choice in the state. If you do draw a limited license spend some time glassing a few bucks before deciding to spot and stalk a specific buck. If you’re planning to hunt private ground get permission prior to applying.

Big Hole River along the southern edge, Silver Bow Creek in the northern portion and Sand Creek in the east flow through broad river valleys. The valleys yield to foothills that climb into the Beaverhead and Deerlodge National Forest and the Continental Divide. Peaks within the National Forest reach elevations of 9,000 feet.

Block Management and Wildlife Management Areas, BLM and portions of Beaverhead National Forest provide good access for tag holders. Much of the land used by antelope is privately held, so before you apply for a limited license make sure you have permission.

Hay meadows and center pivot irrigated crops are found in the river valleys with drainages supporting clusters of cottonwoods and willows along their banks. Open range consists of buffalo and blue grama grasses, sagebrush, bitterbrush and rabbit brush. Foothills have stands of pinyon, juniper, ponderosa and open short grass south facing slopes. Mountain slopes are forested with spruce, fir and pine.

National Forests, BLM, Block and Wildlife Management Areas have camping opportunities. Be sure and check with local agencies regarding length of stay and other regulations. Wise River has limited lodging and restaurants. Communities of Anaconda and Butte offer a variety of lodging, cafés and restaurants, medical facilities and gas and diesel.
