This is a classic wilderness hunting experience in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The South Fork of the Flathead river flows through this area. A lot of this area is choked with underbrush but don’t let that discourage you. The Sun River Game Range borders this district to the east and is off limits to hunting. Expect a physically demanding hunt in order to punch a tag on a buck or bull.
Good bulls come out of this area each season, but hunters will need to work hard in order to see and harvest quality bulls. This is a classic pack-in backcountry experience that is great for someone with horses. It is one of the few places in Montana that has an early season rifle season during the elk rut in September. There is a high number of wolves and grizzly bears.
