This is a classic wilderness hunting experience in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The South Fork of the Flathead river flows through this area. A lot of this area is choked with underbrush but don’t let that discourage you. The Sun River Game Range borders this district to the east and is off limits to hunting. Expect a physically demanding hunt in order to punch a tag on a buck or bull.

Good bulls come out of this area each season, but hunters will need to work hard in order to see and harvest quality bulls. This is a classic pack-in backcountry experience that is great for someone with horses. It is one of the few places in Montana that has an early season rifle season during the elk rut in September. There is a high number of wolves and grizzly bears.

Lots of thick timbered country. Streams for the most part flow throughout the year. The Chinese Wall holds part of the eastern boundary of this hunting district.

Very remote area to access by foot. Horses and pack stock is recommended. One of the few areas of Montana where horses will outnumber hikers and backpackers. Popular access points into the Wilderness area are Holland Lake in the southwest, Seeley Lake (Pyramid Pass), Ovando, a few access points off of Highway 200 around Lincoln, and Teton Canyon Road just north of Choteau.

Classic western Montana hunting district, dark timber, grassy meadows and high open country. Thick coniferous forests and plenty of alders and tangles of under brush in the wetter northwest region. Lots of dense lodgepole stands. Forest fires in the area have created great elk and deer habitat. For the most part it is relatively gentle mountain terrain.

Towns close to this hunting district are Condon, Lincoln and Choteau. This hunting area is very remote and requires backcountry camping.
