Hunt District 323 in Montana is characterized by challenging terrain and is popular among seasoned hunters for its rewarding opportunities. Many hunters share that understanding the unit’s topography and being prepared for the physical demands increases the chance of success, particularly during late season hunts. Hunters also advise paying attention to the seasonal behavior of game, noting that it can greatly affect visibility and tracking. This large district is found in Southwest Montana and make up a large portion of the area. Several notable mountain ranges are found within the unit including the Greenhorn and Gravelly ranges. Elk numbers in this area are among the highest in the state. Whitetail deer are found in great numbers here as well, while some mule deer are available although their numbers are low.
This area has become popular for elk hunters on a general tag due to the high numbers of elk and relative ease of access.
