This hunt district is located in central Montana, south of Lewistown, in the Snowy and Little Snowy Mountains. This district not only offers great hunting opportunities but breathtaking scenery as well. Hunters have the opportunity to hunt deer in both the archery and rifle season on the same tag. Elk hunters also have the opportunity to hunt this area with a bow or rifle. There are whitetail deer in this district that can be harvested with a general deer license.

The hype of this district tends to overshadow most hunters success. The district does grow a few good bulls, but they can be hard to find on public land. This district is generally considered an opportunistic mule deer district.

The Snowy and Little Snowy Mountains providing good public access for hunters. Terrain varies from sagebrush and grass prairies within wide-open badlands to steep higher elevation lodgepole forested mountains. The elevations fluctuate drastically from the prairies to the tops of the mountain peaks.

Access to private land can be an issue and you will need a good map and a GPS. There is some accessible BLM and State Land. The best access to large chunks of public land will be to hunt the Forest. Camping is available on both BLM and Forest Service Lands. There is no overnight camping on State Land. Motels are available in Lewistown. This is a small town that is accustomed to catering to hunters and offers groceries, gas and supplies

This district ranges from rolling wheatfields to steep hills dominated by conifers. Conifers are largely dominated by ponderosa pine, some Douglas fir and Rocky Mountain juniper scattered throughout. Shrubs found in the rolling prairies include silver buffaloberry, western snowberry, chokecherry and various willow species. Native grasses include bluebunch wheatgrass, western wheatgrass, green needlegrass, blue grama, little bluestem, prairie sandreed and Sandberg's bluegrass. Large acreages of crops are found in this hunting district, mostly in the western portion.

Camping is available on both BLM and Forest Service lands. There is no overnight camping on state land. Motels are available in Lewistown. This is a small town that is accustomed to catering to hunters and offers groceries, gas and supplies
