Quick Tips
- Book an outfitter or secure private land access prior to your hunt
- Whitetail hunting is excellent so pick up a deer tag if you plan on elk hunting this district

This district is located in northwest Montana between the Rocky Mountain Front and the town of Choteau. This area is made up primarily of riparian and agricultural private lands. Elk harvest is managed by very limited bull permits and restricted private access. Some large ranches in this district do not allow any hunting which creates sanctuaries for deer and elk. Elk numbers are low but good bulls have been taken with outfitters on private land. Whitetail and mule deer numbers are good and trophy quality is high relative to most areas in Montana.
Hunters willing to hunt this district are highly advised to secure private access before planning a hunt. Rifle elk permits are very limited but quality on the private ranches can be great. The Teton River floodplain makes up the northern portion of this district and has produced some of the best whitetail bucks in Montana. The western portion of this district is a great wintering area for big mule deer bucks coming out of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
