This district is immediately north and west of Yellowstone National Park and around the town of West Yellowstone in south central Montana. It also borders Idaho on the south. Much of it is a rugged mountainous area with many high peaks and numerous alpine basins in the Taylor Hilgard District of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness.
The sheep population is stable after experiencing a die off in the past. Sheep can be difficult to locate in the wilderness and remote areas of this district as there is a lot of rugged country, but there are a few pockets of rams that are historically in the same locales. This district has spectacular scenery and is beautiful sheep country.
