In Montana's Hunt District 303, hunters have shared valuable insights that highlight the area's challenging yet rewarding hunting conditions. The terrain is rugged, demanding physical preparedness and familiarity with the landscape. Seasonality plays a crucial role, with understanding migratory patterns improving success rates, particularly for elk. While draw odds can be competitive, persistent scouting and adapting to the area's environmental conditions can enhance hunting opportunities.
This district is immediately north of Yellowstone National Park and around the town of Gardner in south central Montana. Much of it is a rugged mountainous area with many high peaks and numerous alpine basins in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.
The wonderful thing about this district is it is unlimited which means anyone can buy a bighorn sheep tag and go hunting. Sheep can be difficult to locate in the wilderness, making the past success highly variable. This district has spectacular scenery and is beautiful sheep country.
