This small district is found in southwestern Montana and encompasses the historic town of Gardiner. This area is found just north of Yellowstone National Park and can see heavy populations of wolves at times because of this. Much of the western half of the unit is private while the eastern half is almost entirely composed of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. In general, wolf hunting gets better here later in the year as wintering animals, such as deer and elk, move into the area.
Wolf populations fluctuate here due to the proximity of Yellowstone National Park but the hunting conditions generally improve as weather conditions get worse.
