Located against the Wyoming and Colorado borders, this unit holds a healthy population of elk and can offer some great hunting experiences. Public land will be your biggest hurdle with this unit and it would be wise to research and secure an outfitter. Aside from the massive amounts of private land, you can still find Conservation Partner Lands and Open Fields and Waters program lands for hunting access. It would be wise to do your research and secure a good place to hunt, before getting a tag.

There's a good population of elk in the unit, with the majority found along the western edge. Most of the resident elk are found on private land, so it's highly recommended to hire an outfitter to really get the most out of this coveted tag.

Most of this area is comprised of private agricultural lands, which does create access issues, but also facilitates excellent herd health and antler growth. With minimal elevation fluctuations, apart from occasional creek and river beds, navigating the unit is straightforward and effortless for hunters.

Hunters must depend on maps and e-scouting to uncover viable hunting prospects. While there are some scattered state-owned parcels, hunters can also explore wildlife management areas and lands enrolled in the Open Fields and Waters Program for additional access opportunities. With I-80 running through the middle, there's no shortage of roads to get you through this entire unit. Numerous highways and country roads pretty much checkerboard the whole unit. Public land sections are scattered throughout the unit but, while some opportunities could be found in these areas, success in theses areas can be very tough.

The majority of this region comprises agricultural crop lands, interspersed with scattered stands of mature hardwoods. Ground cover thrives within these wooded areas, creating prime deer habitat. Numerous creeks, rivers, and reservoirs dot the landscape.

With I-80 splitting the unit, you'll find all the amenities you need. Hotels, gas stations and grocery stores can be found in Chappell, Sidney, Kimball and Pine Bluffs. Campgrounds can be found along both routes as well. So once you nail down a place to hunt, you should be able to find the appropriate lodging near by.
