A small but healthy population of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are found western North Dakota in the steep badlands areas along the Little Missouri River. Tags are distributedthrough a random lottery and are available for both residents and nonresidents to apply for. Up to one license can be drawn by nonresidents but this license is not guaranteed andcan be drawn by residents too.
Most mature rams average around the 170-175" mark but rams above 180" mark are possible as well. When applying applicants will apply for a sheep license, but not a specific unit.Tag quotas and units are set after the application deadline. Once set, the state will contact successful applicants to then deem which unit they will hunt.
