Unit 02A is located in the west-central portion of the state and features the Badlands Naional park on the southern end. This unit is rather remote with very few services across the bulk of the unit except for a few small townships along the interstate, the biggest being the town of Wall. This unit is primarily private land on the northern end but the southern half feature some great ublic tracts There are two major rivers running through this unit the Cheyenne River and the Belle Fourche which offer some fantastic habitat, as well as miles of rolling hills covered in CRP and prairie grass.

Good antelope populations can be found in this unit but the lack of public access in some areas can leave some hunters scratching their heads. GOHUNT maps are highly recommend to help navigate public and private boundaires.

Losing elevations as you move from west to east and from south to north there is not quite a thousand feet of elevation change across the entire unit, with the very northeast corner in the river bottom of the Cheyenne River being the lowest point. The bulk of the unit is very flat with little roll to the overall landscape but there are areas that are more broken than others, particularly around the Cheyenne and Belle Fourche Rivers. The southern half of the unit has far more landscape features with deep cut draws and many creek bottoms that provide excellent habitat for the areas wildlife.

Overall there are countless county roads covering the majority of the unit which makes navigating to one spot or the other very simple. There is sparse public ground on the northern end of the unit but the southern half has a lot of potential.

A mix of short and tall prairie grass for miles in all directions as well as countless species of wildflowers can be found in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes. Very sparse timber which is primarily a mix of Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak can be found along the riparian zone of both the Cheyenne and Belle Fouche Rivers as well as other small creek beds scattered across the unit.

Located in the Southwest corner of the Unit along Interstate 90 and state Hwy 14 is the town of Wall. This town has a population of just under a thousand people. This is the largest town in all directions for many miles it has a number of amenities you would not normally find in a town this small from drug stores and trading posts as well as locally owned restaurants and a few fast food chains you should be able to get anything you may need outside of any major sporting good purchases. There are a number of lodging options from bigger chains to locally owned hotels, being that the railroad goes through this town, it is a good idea to call ahead and make reservations as any given night every room in town could be booked with rail workers. If you are looking for a place to camp there are very limited locations in the unit but there are a few established campgrounds in Wall.
