- Bring your shotgun for pheasants, Sharptail Grouse, and possibly a Greater Prairie Chicken

This unit is a perfect fit for a hunter looking to plan a DIY-style hunt. There are over 100,000 acres of Fort Pierre National Grassland which is over half of the total acres of the unit. This is a very remote unit with no amenities throughout, a hunt here will require an amount of driving back and forth into the unit each day, or a primitive camp set up. There is a healthy population of whitetail with scattered populations of mule deer across the unit. There are no major river systems, but there are many creek beds and excellent habitat in all directions. There is a large amount of agriculture in the southeast corner of the unit but the bulk of the unit is made up of raw prairie.
