Hunters discussing the North Slope unit in Utah emphasize the rugged terrain, noting the area's challenging access points which can impact the success of a hunt. The consensus suggests that those who are willing to invest time in scouting and navigating the difficult terrain are often rewarded with good hunting opportunities, particularly for elk and mule deer. Several users advise focusing on higher elevations early in the season before snow pushes game to lower altitudes, and they highlight the importance of being prepared for variable weather conditions. Recommendations also include understanding the draw odds, which can be favorable for those who plan ahead and apply strategically.
Located in the northeast corner of Utah, this unit has healthy herds of mule deer. The unit borders Wyoming and a small section of Colorado. Some deer winter in the other states, but typically are in Utah during the hunting seasons.
Mule deer are found throughout the entire unit but will be spread out in the unit. This unit is a general season deer unit and is not managed for trophy quality. There are still some good bucks harvested every year.
