On the Ground
This smaller subunit is found in the southern portion of the state and at the very southern end of the primary Henry Mountains Unit. This area does not typically see the deer densities as the main Henry Mountains unit, but some excellent bucks can still be found here through good, hard hunting. Most of this unit is arid high-desert terrain and optics will be very important during the hunt.
Terrain
This unit features a diverse landscape, including steep rocky cliffs and ridgelines, flat plateaus, and semi-desert terrain at lower elevations. The rugged canyons and arroyos that carve through the area are home to intermittent streams and vegetation.
Roughly 2,600 square miles
98% public land
Elevations range from 3,800 - 8,000 feet
Vegetation
Mid-elevations host pinyon-juniper woodlands, while valley floors and less rocky areas support grasslands and shrublands, including sagebrush and rabbitbrush. Wetlands and riparian zones can be found along streams, providing crucial habitats. The area is rich in geological features, with exposed sedimentary rocks forming dramatic spires, cliffs, and hoodoos.
Access
The vast majority of this unit is composed ot publically accessible lands. The southern third of the unit is composed of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This area is open to hunting but some restrictions may apply. A lot of this area is roadless so physical conditioning will be very important.
Camping and Lodging
Because of the remoteness of this area many hunters camp along roads. There are several locations that have good, flat camping locations for travel trailers or tents. There are no modern lodging options nearby.
