Access to the Wasatch Mtns, East unit in Utah is generally good, particularly around Soldier Summit, but hunters should be cautious of road conditions, especially in wet weather, which can make roads treacherous and lead to accidents and vehicle recovery challenges. Hunters are advised to avoid posting sensitive access information online to prevent unprepared hunters from planning based on incomplete details. The late-season mule deer hunts, while often labeled difficult, show high success rates, likely due to the use of rifles rather than more challenging archery or muzzleloader gear earlier in the season. Overall, success hinges on preparation and understanding seasonal challenges and terrain.

Located in northern Utah, in part of the Uinta Valley and the Wasatch Mountains. This unit has good public access, good numbers of mule deer and moderate terrain giving hunters an enjoyable hunt for a mature mule deer buck.
This is a general deer unit managed for hunter opportunity that still produces good bucks. There is also good public access in this unit.
On top of the mountain range there are large meadows and flats. Off of the mountain there are steep creek drainages leading down to the valley floor. Just up from the valley floor are rolling foot hills. With all the ridges, foothills and drainages there are a lot of areas for game to hide where they may not be as pressured.
Much of this area is part of the Ashley and Uinta National Forest, giving great public access. There is road access on all sides of the unit with well-maintained dirt roads leading to less-maintained 4-wheel-drive roads and ATV trails. There are some large sections of private land and tribal land mixed throughout the unit that limit access.
Low elevations in this unit have dry, desert rolling hills and flats. Some grass, prickly-pear cactus and sagebrush with scattered pinyon pines and juniper trees. Middle elevations are covered in ponderosa pines and oak brush while sagebrush continues through this elevation as well. Higher elevations have scattered aspen groves with steep slopes covered in conifer forests.
Most hunters camp along roads, there are several locations that have good, flat camping locations for travel trailers or tents. There some designated campgrounds open to the public. Heber, Duchesne, Price have lodging depending on what part of the unit you want to hunt.
