This area can be found on the northern boundary of the state, northeast of Gillette. Comprised of high plains desert, this unit has a mix of private land with a lot of BLM and state land as well as the Thunder Basin National Grassland.
This hunt area has good general access to public land. Hunters here can hire an outfitter to access private land. The Thunder Basin National Grassland provides antelope with more remote habitat.
The majority of the terrain here is made up of large sagebrush draws, grassy ridges, and valleys. Spot and stalk technique will work great here and glassing conditions are optimal.
Public access in this unit is good. County roads give most access, as well as some smaller two tracks. The gas and oil drilling activity that goes on here gives access to roads in places throughout the area. It is bordered by Wyoming Highway 59 on the west, the Montana State Line on the north, County Roads 66, 85 and 145 on the east. Cabin Creek, Mitchell Creek and County Roads 91 and 26 can be found on the south. Utilize GOHUNT maps for land ownership and parcel boundaries. ATV's, UTV's and 4x4 vehicles are highly recommended.
Open land with high desert prairie with sagebrush and grassland can be seen here. Timbered hills can be also be found in the eastern portion of the unit.
Gillette is the closest town and has a lot of lodging options. Grocery stores, gas stations and other amenities can be found here as well. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Hunters can also camp in remote locations.
