This area is found in southwestern Wyoming north of Interstate 80. Although this area has had a drop in buck quality, large bucks can still be found in some areas.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region W and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 82, 100.
This unit has a general tag for residents and nonresidents. Trophy quality bucks can be found in the central and northern parts of this unit.
This area has long, deep canyons and sagebrush flats. A few mountain ranges provide vantage points for glassing and locating bucks. Table Mountain, South Steamboat Mountain and Essex Mountain are the highest peaks in the unit.
This area is BLM land with a few ranch lands with good public access. Most roads are marked with BLM signs. Four-wheel drive and chains are recommended during late season hunts when snow is likely.
The majority of the area is dominated by sagebrush, bitterbrush, juniper, pinyon and prairie grass. Higher mountains have conifers covering the landscape. Willows and cottonwood trees can be found on some ranches and creek bottoms.
Hunters can camp remotely on the BLM land on the unit with no permit required. Lodging is available at multiple motels that can be located just south of the Unit in Rock Springs, Green River and Wamsutter.
