Hunt area 148 is known as the Teton Unit and has a lot of designated wilderness area.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region L and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 92, 94, 128, 160, 171

There can be a lot of mature bucks in this area, but there is limited access here. With this unit sharing a northern boundary with the Yellowstone National Park, a lot of bucks will live in the park and head south for fall and winter.

The mountains here have high elevations that make getting above tree line more difficult, but the big mule deer typically prefer higher elevations. The terrain has a lot of rock outcrops and boulder fields with creeks and streams breaking up the canyon bottoms.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

Tall grasses that line the creeks and streams can mainly be found in the valley bottoms, with willow bushes found closer to the lower elevations in spots with steady water sources. The mountains are mainly dominated by conifer forests and aspen trees.

Most roads lead to the edge of the wilderness to trailheads where hunters can camp or access trails that lead to the backcountry. The horse trails and hiking trails lead into the wilderness area and to the edge of Yellowstone Park.

Hunters can camp at trailheads in designated camping sites, or camp anywhere inside of the wilderness area. Lodging can also be found in near by Moran.
