At a Glance
Unit 47 is located in north-central Wyoming, on the west slope of the Bighorn Mountains southeast of Greybull. The unit consists of lower crop lands and turns into steep canyons and cedars in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains. There is also a lot of BLM and state land here.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region R and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 41, 46, 50, 51, 52, 53
Mule deer can be found throughout the whole unit, and whitetail are mostly found in lower elevations. They can be challenging to hunt, but there is still trophy potential within the unit.
Quick Tips
- Early snows can be expected and will push deer to lower elevations
- Bring a fishing pole for great fishing in the Bighorn River and Shell Creek
- Cell phone service is spotty throughout the unit
- Fishing licenses can also be obtained to fish the many lakes and creeks in the unit
