This area is located in North Central Wyoming south and west of Highway 72. It is known for great harvest success rates with quality bucks taken every year. The terrain allows for hunters to glass a lot of area from good vantage points.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region D and tags drawn for this area are valid in: 66, 70, 74, 75, 76, 77, and 88
Area 74 has been talked about for the large numbers of both mule deer and whitetail deer that can be found in most of the unit. Archery season is the best time to find bucks in bachelor groups in summer patterns. This area is restricted to antlered mule deer with 3 points or more on either antler, or any whitetail deer.
This area consists of mainly long deep canyons, sage brush flats and prairie grass. A majority of the unit is private land with walk in and Hunter Management Areas. Como Ridge, Simpson Ridge and Sand Hill provides some of the highest peaks in the unit.
Most of this unit consists of private land, with Wyoming Game and Fish Managed Public Access Areas. Most roads are marked with county signs.
The majority of the area is dominated by sagebrush and prairie grass with cottonwoods and willows along the creeks and rivers here.
Some hunters will camp remotely on the National Forest land just south of this area with no permit required. Lodging at multiple motels can be located east of the unit in Laramie.
