The area is noted for offering a good population of elk, making it a popular choice for dedicated hunters willing to navigate its rugged landscapes. Hunters emphasize the importance of understanding game movement patterns, as elk tend to be more active at higher elevations during early mornings and late evenings. Additionally, patience and scouting are highlighted as crucial, with many recommending pre-season reconnaissance to increase the odds of a successful hunt.
This unit is found in the south-central portion of the state and features a good offering of public lands and a small, but healthy, herd of elk. Most of this area is high plains desert with scattered timber patches on some of the northern facing slopes and creek drainages. Hunting in this unit will be glassing intensive and hunters will need to be prepared to cover some ground in search of elk.
Hunters can expect moderate to rugged terrain with elk typically found in the higher sage brush ridges and deeper draws of the Atlantic Rim and Miller Hill. This unit is big and has a lot country to hunt on. Elk are usually found in the southeast part of the unit, but can be hard to find.
