Comprised of very sparsely timbered ridges and draws that drain into the Powder River, this area is located in the northeast corner of the state and contains expansive amounts of BLM and state lands.
The terrain in this area is moderate and elk are scattered throughout. Big bulls are very difficult to find in this area.
Ridges and canyons break up the terrain in this area. The terrain is gentler on top of the ridge in the eastern portion and also down at the Powder River.
Public access in this unit is good, with some county roads and BLM roads providing access throughout. There are large tracts of roadless public land found in this area. The unit is bordered by the Powder River on the west, County Roads 38, 293 and 29 on the northeast and Interstate 90 on the south.
This area is high desert country and is dry and broken up with scattered juniper on rocky slopes. Sagebrush, mountain shrubs, grasslands and conifers make up most of the habitat found here.
Gillette is the closest town and offers many options for lodging, groceries, gas and other amenities. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. Hunters can camp in remote locations.
